How to Set Up 1Password

This how-to will walk you through setting up 1Password. To continue, you must receive an invitation from accounts@1password to join, as shown below.

  1. In the email, click Join now.

  2. In the browser window that opens, click Sign in with Microsoft Entra ID. Use your Kerberos ID as the sign-in.

After signing in successfully, a new window will let you know that you need to wait for admin approval.

  1. After about five minutes you should receive a Welcome to 1Password email, as shown below.

  1. Select the sign-in to log into 1Password.

Now you can use 1Password via a browser. To install the application on your computer and add the extension to your Browser, please follow the steps below.

To avoid running into possible browser cookie issues, which may lead to account lockouts, it is HIGHLY recommended that you immediately download the application on to your PC and then register the application/PC under the trusted devices list. See this link for more information:

How to Install the 1Password Application on your computer

  1. Open the Microsoft Store App, or search for it from the search bar.

  2. Search for, and install the 1Password app.

     

  3. Log in using the Sign in with Microsoft Entra ID option.

     

  4. A new browser window will open to log in with UCD credentials. Use your email address and Kerberos password to log in.

     

  5. Finally, verify that you are trying to sign in to 1Password, by clicking Continue.

 

Installing the Browser Extension

  1. Select the UC Davis drop-down and then click Settings…

     

  2. Once in Settings, select Browser and then Get 1Password for your browser. You’ll be directed to the extension store to download the extension.

     

  3. Click Get to add the extension.

  4. To double-check that the extension has been installed, click the Extensions button in your browser, as shown below. Click the push-pin icon next to 1Password will make it visible in your browser bar.

     

  5. To search, save, and add passwords to your vault, you can do so from the extension in the browser, without having to open the app.

How to View Trusted Devices and Browsers

 

  1. To view your trusted device and browser list, login to UCDavis.1Password.com using a trusted browser, i.e. the browser used to setup 1Password).

  2. One the right-hand side of the window, click the three dots next to your profile name, and select My Profile. You’ll find the registered devices under Trusted Devices and Browsers.
