How to Enter your Apple ID on an iPhone

If you’re migrating to or replacing an old iPhone, you’ll need to enter your Apple ID on your new phone for photos, contacts, notes, and other accounts to sync to the new phone.

Before configuring your Apple ID, your new phone must have a network connection, either an active cellular data connection or a Wi-Fi connection.

  1. Tap the Settings icon.

  2. Tap Sign in to your iPhone.

  3. Enter your Apple ID and your password, then tap Next. At this point you should have already verified that you can log into iCloud using this ID and password.

  4. If you’ve entered your information correctly, you’re phone will sign in to iCloud.

  5. You’ll be prompted to enter the passcode for the phone. This passcode should have been changed from the default password already.

  6. Once you’re finally signed in you’ll see your iCloud information, including how much storage space you have left. Free iCloud accounts only have 5 GB of cloud storage. This includes backups of photos and contacts.

If you have any difficulties getting logged into iCloud, first make sure you can log into the iCloud website. If you’re able to log into the website, then verify the phone has an active data connection and that you’re entering your usernames and passwords correctly. It’s easy to make mistakes on small keyboards.
