  • Make sure to note final grading process not changing.
  • Clarifying what's going to happen with MyUCDavis course tools; list by name.
  • Create a page on smartsite.ucdavis.edu for MyUCDavis users.
  • What are the "access channels?" What needs does it meet? "Follow this path."
  • How do we illustrate SmartSite as a central place to coordinate various tasks?

Bills Preliminary Outline

Time: Late September
Length: 800-900 words, or about as long as on in summer IT Times
Audience: Staff and faculty. Some will never have heard of SmartSite; some will know quite a bit about it. This article needs to introduce the service to newcomers, but still inform experienced users.

Points to cover:

  1. The basics. What it is, why Davis has adopted it, its status as the preferred course management system starting this fall.
  2. Latest numbers of users, project sites and course sites.
  3. The demise of the tools in MyUCDavis, starting in a year.
  4. How to sign up, learn more or get trained, possibly also as a sidebar of a wicontacts.
  5. Stories about who's using it, and why, from faculty and staff, plus comments from Siegel. The goal is to display a wide variety of uses.
