Phone - Owen, Jon - 2-3pm
Owen: great that Brain is involved cuz he could use some help on the req def process and Brian can provide lots of input on that (particularly for categorization)
Jon: will send Brian's email and Owen will introduce himself.
Agreed:
We will start looking at these two things:
- categorization and
- export customization
...but in a dovetail way:
Category work will require a longer req and design process and we can start that next week and process stepwise until we are ready for coding somewhere later down the road.
export can start as soon as we have enough concensus and skills to implement something. This does not mean we will start without a plan though... this is just a statement of readiness (see #quick out in next section)
Custom export.
There are two export areas.
- 'roster view export', and
- currently exports a richer data set and the interface is more mature.
- 'course grade export'
- export is probably not used by anyone as it is.
- A quick 'out' implementation option which will be used only in the case of fire or other personal hazard might be to get this export option reading from a config file. Nice to have a backdoor.
Jon: not sure it makes sense to work on an unused export option, improving it, and leaving the much used one un-improved.
Jon: We need to answer this Why are there two? This will help us decide where to dig in.
Owen: will send links to Ray's Grade-book-of-the-month-reading-list: required reading for hacking into the gradebook. And, any other things that he can think of that will help us (UCD) orient ourselves.
Jon: will starting reading them and looking into both areas of the export featureset
meeting again.
We will try for a face to face meeting when 1) we have more momentum such as code knowledge for me and some requirements discussions via other means, and 2) ray and josh have more time.
looks like a face-to-face meeting may be useful first week of May.
Breeze meeting may be possible next week, we will toss this around via email in the later part of this week.
Owen: will be one East Coast but has some access to email, etc (Breeze possible)
