GB 2.5 Weighted categories and percentages

In this story, our faculty user designed a gradebook which uses both weighted categories. His grading method is to assign numeric grades for each item which are then calculated with equal weight within a category. Each category total is a percentage of the grade.

Let's determine whether the calculations in this MyUCDavis example match those in Sakai's Gradebook!

Setup

Set up the following categories and percentages:

• Poems 30%
• Homework 10%
• Mid-term 25%
• Final 35%

Set up the following gradebook items under these categories:
Note: DO NOT setup any quizzes or assignments - this test does NOT involve interaction with Assignment or Tests & Quizzes tools.

• Poems - 3 items worth 20 points each
• Homework - 7 items worth 40 points each EXCEPT for H6 which is worth 30 points
• Mid-term - 1 item worth 100 points
• Final - 1 item worth 100 points

Data Entry

Now, enter the following grades for each student user. You may need to repeat this test to verify various student accounts. Columns P, H, MD, or F stand for poem, homework, mid-term, and final.
For homework 6, no grades are entered. For any other blanks, do not enter a grade.

Now, let's see how the calculations in MyUCDavis match up with GB 2.5. If you entered the grades as specified, and the grade calculations for no entries are calculated the same as in MyUCDavis, the category percentages should match these results:
