MyUCDavis Export - Samigo Import Summary

The question type comparisons listed below compare the MyUCDavis question types with their equivalent in Samigo.

Samigo lists 3 additional question types that do not exist in MyUCDavis: Survey, True-False, and File Upload. The first two question types are simply variations on multiple choice questions. The File Upload is a paragraph/essay question with file upload function automatically added.
MyUCDavis has one question type with no equivalent in Samigo - calculated question type.

While there are many equivalencies between the two systems, there are slight differences and there are a few minor bugs with the Samigo import process which prevent the import of question parameters. These differences are noted as follows.

IMPORT QUESTION POOL LIMITATIONS

Import question pools only works for single-section xml files - if you export a mult-section quiz, it will not import any of the questions. This is due to pending determination of how Samigo will handle export/import of subpools, possibly using Content Packaging; discussion of this issue is scheduled for Atlanta and is partly dependent on faculty feedback.

Sakai v2.1.x

Order by Question Text in this version does not work. Questions are displayed in the same order they are imported in (if imported.)
Order by Question Type only works in descending order.

Sakai v2.2.x - 2.3.x

Order by Question Text is forced in this version, i.e., imported questions will not appear in the order which they are imported (unless the order is already alphabetical.)

QUESTION TYPE COMPARISONS

PARAGRAPH/ESSAY QUESTIONS:
*Quiz Builder and Tests & Quizzes are comparable for this type of question.

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS:

Quiz Builder allows you to set how many correct or incorrect answers to display from a pool of answers, while Tests & Quizzes displays all possible answer to the student. Suggestion: If you have a large pool of possible answers, you may want to pare down the pool after import.
Cumulative grading for multiple correct answers does not exist in Tests & Quizzes, so students must select all correct answers to score the question as correct.
If you want to display the answers to a multiple choice question randomly, you must set each question to 'Randomize Answers' in Tests & Quizzes after import.
Survey questions are a special type of question in Tests & Quizzes. If your multiple choice question was meant to be a survey question, you may wish to experiment with this new question type.

FILL IN THE BLANK QUESTIONS:

If you set the answer to your question to be case-sensitive in Quiz Builder, you must reset the question to be case sensitive in Tests & Quizzes.
Questions which start with or end with a blank may not function properly in Tests & Quizzes.
If your question was an unordered fill in the blank with more than one blank, you may need to pair down your acceptable answers after import as each answer will be allowed for each blank. Tests & Quizzes offers you more granular control of each blank in this type of question
In Tests & Quizzes, you may select 'mutually exclusive' as an option if your question has multiple blanks. This option ensures that students respond to identical answer options with unique answers.
In Quiz Builder, may "contain" the correct answer. For a quiz imported into Tests & Quizzes, a student's answer must match exactly, so you may want to enter more answer variations or modify the answers to include an asterisk for one or more wildcard characters.

MATCHING QUESTIONS:

Distractors, or additional unpaired matches, are allowed in Quiz Builder. Distractors will not be copied to your matching questions in Sakai, so you may want to include additional pair options in your question.
In Quiz Builder, you were able to select the number of pairs to display from a pool of possible pairs.
All possible pairs from your imported question will be displayed to the student in Tests & Quizzes.

CALCULATED QUESTIONS:

Calculated questions have no equivalent in Sakai's Tests & Quizzes and are not supported. Any calculated questions in your quiz or question pool will not be exported out of Quiz Builder.
