Version 2 Improvements

Improvements to MyInfoVault released on June 30, 2008

Here's what's changed:

  • HTML Codes for Formatting
    As part of the move to make MIV a true database repository, all of the existing HTML formatting codes have been removed. All data and special characters will remain in MIV for your use; these will not be removed. In the upgraded MIV, a new "global formatting" feature allows users to make formatting selections that will apply to the publication list entries, such as making the author's name bold in every publication. This feature replaces the need to enter HTML formatting codes (the only exception is that HTML codes for subscripts and superscripts will still be allowed). To apply formatting use "Manage Format Options": go to Packet/Dossier -> Packet Design -> Manage Format Options. For more information see the FAQ for Format Options. Another new feature in the upgraded MIV is a built-in formatting editor that allows users to format additional information data such as using italics or other formatting choices provided by the editor.

  • Navigation and Help
    Users will enter data and create packets using a newly designed top navigation bar. No existing MIV functionality has been removed, but some links have been renamed and relocated in the top navigation bar. A "Help" link will be located in the upper right hand corner for more information on how to use the new system.

Version 2 includes the following functionality

DESIGN IMPROVEMENTS

  • Help text and Contact Us information available on all new pages.
  • Browser screen size adjustable to different monitor sizes.
  • "Breadcrumbs" (similar to sitemap/last visited links) available on all new pages.
  • Improved menu navigation and naming conventions.
  • ALL Version 2 features are available from the top navigation menu.
  • Improved design, navigation and useability for login page, main menu, data entry and packet menu screens.

TECHNICAL IMPROVEMENTS

  • Coding practices that comply with standards and other tools.
  • Improved database organization and structure.
  • Streamlined code base to ease troubleshooting
  • Reduced use of duplicated code for like functions.
  • Ease of coding for future improvements.
  • Separation of the business rules from the presentation logic
  • Improved error logs
  • HTML formatting tags stored in the database separately from the data in order to allow for pure data imports and exports.

FUNCTIONAL IMPROVEMENTS

Packet

  • Improved packet creation rendering time.
  • Most Packet Data appears in ascending order (where possible).
  • "Additional Information" appears at the end of their corresponding categories.
  • "Teaching Supplement" has been rolled into "Teach/Advise/Curr Dev".
  • "Grants - other support" has been rolled into "List of Grants".
  • "Extending Knowledge: Broadcast, Print, or Electronic Media", "Extending Knowledge: Workshops, Courses, Presentations, or Short Courses" and "Extending Knowledge: Other" have been rolled into "Extending Knowledge".
  • "Publications" and "Contributions to Jointly Authored Works" have been rolled into "Publications and Contributions to Jointly Authored Works".

Special Characters

  • New special character palette that is available on all data entry (including additional information) and letters pages.
  • Special character palette inserts special characters without the need to copy and paste HTML codes.
  • Improved rendering for special characters.

Resequencing

  • New "drag and drop" resequencing functionality that is much faster.
  • Additional Information records AND/OR sections can be resequenced.
  • PDF Uploads can now be resequenced.
  • Presentations now sort in ascending order by Year and then any Month (if selected).
  • Editorial and Advisory Boards now sort by Year.
  • Lecture/Seminar/Lab/Other now sort by Term or Month. Both cannot be selected. If both are selected (legacy data) then the packet displays by Term.
  • Special Advising now sorts in ascending order by Year.
  • Curricular Development now sorts in ascending order by Year

WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Editor

  • WYSIWYG Editor added to Candidate's Statement, Position Description, Areas of Interest and all Additional Information screens.
  • New lists and tables features.
  • Now able to add an unlimited amount of records to sections.

Design My Packet

  • Improved design for the Design Packet Extensive screen.
  • "Edit in place" headers now available.
  • New select all/clear all checkbox options.
    *(A) Annotation indicators identify records with Annotations.
  • "Edit Annotation" links available for each publication record.
  • Required fields are now indicated in the "Design My Packet" screen but do not prevent the packet from being created.

Annotations

  • Footnotes now have a heading called "Footnotes:" that appear at the bottom of the page.
  • Notations appearing at the front of publication numbers now have enough space to be displayed on the same line.
  • A Notations legend now appears at the bottom of the page.

Format Options

  • Bold, italic and underline options for any pattern in the publication Author, Title, Publication Name or Contributions to Jointly Authored Works fields.
  • An unlimited amount of patterns can be formatted for the publication Author, Title, Publication Name or Contributions to Jointly Authored Works fields.
  • HTML is not insterted into the database when using the new format options.

Contributions to Jointly Authored Works

  • Year now displayed.
  • Print/no print option now available on a per record basis for all Contributions to Jointly Authored Works.

Select Faculty Account (Switch Accounts)

  • Select Faculty Account available on all Version 2 pages.

Data Entry

  • "Last edited" date information added to all edit data entry pages.
  • "This data appears in the (Packet, CV, etc.)" information added to all data entry pages.
  • Easier and faster adding, deleting and updating for data entry.
  • New required fields added. When editing an entry the new required fields must be entered before saving.

Ag. Experimental Station

  • Year information has been added to PDF uploads (similar to Candidate's Statement).

Committees

  • Title added to packet.
  • Alphabetized Committees sub-categories.

Extending Knowledge

  • Periods ( . ) have been added to the end of each Extending Knowledge record.
  • Section heading have been added for "Broadcast, Print, or Electronic Media", "Workshops, Courses, Presentations, or Short Courses", and "Other".

Grants

  • "Purpose/Goals" given a title and relocated from its location directly below "Title".
  • "Type" and "Status" titles added.
  • Grants data entry screens consolidated into one data entry screen.

Honors and Awards

  • "Year" and "Description" titles added.

List of Evaluations

  • "Course Number" and "Course Title" appear on the same line now.
  • URL field added.

Publications

  • URL field now available for all publication categories.
  • "View this Article" links now appear in the previews.
  • Publications data entry screens are now consolidated into one data entry screen.

PubMed Download

  • New select all/clear all checkbox options.
  • Improved and consolidated screens and download features.

Lecture/Seminar/Lab/Other

  • Only Lecture, Seminar, Lab and Other categories available (all other categories are now "Other").

Student Advising

  • Displays last five records (no Design My Packet print/no print options available)

Additional Information

  • Now has a header.
  • Now has a consistent font and font size with the rest of the packet.
  • WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Editor available.

Special Characters
MIV-26: - Special characters error. Implement and test replacement for special character interface to eliminate the cut/paste of html codes for special characters.

Publications/Book Chapters
MIV-63 - Publications/Book Chapters don't show up in packet(Packet formatting parameters set to an invalid string).

Significance of Research
MIV-80 - Significance of Research shows up on screen even when nothing is in the file.

Contributions to Jointly Authored Works
MIV-87 - Contributions to Jointly Authored Works issues.

Research Grants/Contracts: (Completed and Active)
MIV-88 - Grants completed and active did not appear in packet (space was entered in the end date for the Teaching/Training Grant entry).

Publications Resquence Utility
MIV-121 - Bug in resequence utility for publications that had inadvertently doubled up sequence numbers.

Special Characters
MIV-126 - Special Character's don't render correctly for some packets. Problem occurs when an entry with special characters is updated. The existing special characters do not render correctly after updating the entry. The special character codes need to be re-entered or cut/pasted again whenever the entry is updated).

Ag Exp Station
MIV-140 - Ag Exp Station: Spacing between each set of data is too close.

Extending Knowledge
MIV-141 - Extending Knowledge: Data that exceeds one line length does not get indented when it goes to a second line for all three extending knowledge categories.

Editorial & Advisory Boards
MIV-142 - Editorial & Advisory Boards: Heading needs to be the same font size as the other categories that appear in List of Service.

Student Advising
MIV-143 - Student Advising: Categories that are added are indented one space compared to the other categories.
