Announcements

  • 6-30-08, nw - from sak-2022
I discovered what I think is a PROBLEM.
if you have created an announcement to release in the future, regardless of the e-mail setting, if you select edit, the e-mail setting defaults to none.  even if you just LOOK at the announcement and make no changes.
if you don't notice this change, the e-mail now won't get sent when the announcement is released.
I think the e-mail setting should remain whatever it was in the original announcement, if you just edit it.
I checked and the same thing happens on 2.4 on -test server.  so maybe I'm the only one in the world who's tried this??

Gradebook

  •  7-11-08  nw  this is also in 2.4 but I think it should be corrected.  in a site with categories & weighting, if an item is not assigned to a category, it is not included in final grade calculations.  items that aren't included should appear in ().  in the IOR view, they do.  in the student view, they don't.  and at the bottom of the page, even in student view, it says "Grades in parentheses () are not included in the course grade calculation."  I think this could lead to misinterpretation by students (sad)
  •  7-16-08  nw  re:sak-1988 GB is doing ODD things w/regard to listing student 9 digit ID numbers vs kerberos for site info, GB item grading pages, All Grades page and downloaded spreadsheet.  it may be memory or cache related and is <blink>truly bizarre</blink>.  it's Jon's problem to correct...

Forums

  •  7-9-08  nw you should split this up, as they are TWO separate tools.  7-14-08 I removed Messages and from the title.  nw  anyway, forums has a number of oddities and foibles, but they are also there in 2.4.  ie7 seems to have a problem printing properly in both versions (chapter 272). it also has a problem w/a powerpoint icon (chapter 272)
  • if you make a change in forums (re-order, add a topic, etc) it can take a LONG time to show for someone else logged in...say I made a change as IOR in firefox and was also in as a student in ie7.  multiple refreshes didn't reflect the change for the student. in fact, sometimes I had to logout/in for the change to be reflected. no big deal if most of the forum activity doesn't take place in real time.
  •  7-16-08  nw  you need to make sure you HAVE sections and have ASSIGNED TAs to the sections in order for TAs to be able to grade forums/topics...even if you have allowed TAs to grade in forums/topic settings.  perhaps IORs know this but it took me a bit to figure out.  (tongue)   I did not check the new GB permissions feature to see if/how this affects forums grading.  I'm just regression testing now.

Site Info

  •  7-2-08  nw  had an odd experience.  on my testing site on - ng, VME 199 w 08, on the site info page, the site description has HTML <p> and </p>.  see chapter 269 for a screen shot.  this is recent, only on this site and NOT on a duplicate site created several days ago.

Tests and Quizzes (Samigo)

  • 7-2-08 nw   something I find really irritating but it's in 2.4 also.  on the settings page is an option to open all the settings options. of you open them they should STAY open.  making changes to some of the parameters closes all the options.  assessment organization and feedback, for example.  so you have to re-open them to continue editing them/
