Setting up 1Password for first use

Receive an email from accounts@1password.com

  1. Select Join now.

  2. A new browser will open, now click (signing with Microsoft Entra ID) hint: use your Kerberos ID.

After signing in successfully a new window will appear stating to wait for admin approval

  1. After about five minutes you should receive a new email from 1Password welcoming you to 1Password

  1. Selecting the signing will now log you in to 1Password.

Now you can use 1Password via a Browser, to install the application on your computer and add the extension to your Browser. Please follow the steps below.

**NOTE to avoid running into possible browser cookie issues which may lead to account lockouts, it is HIGHLY recommended that you immediately download the application on to your PC and then register the application/PC under the trusted devices list. See this link for info on how it works.

From your search bar search for (Microsoft Store)

Search and install 1Password.

Login by selecting Microsoft Entra ID. A new browser will open to login with UC Davis. Please login using your UC Davis email address and password. Once you login Microsoft will ask if you are trying to sign in, select continue.

Congratulations you can now use the 1Pasword application!

Once you are inside the application, we can install the browser extension.

Select the drop-down UC Davis then settings.

Once you are in settings. Select Browser then Get 1Password for your Browser. The button will direct you to the extension store to download the extension.

  1. Select get, it will install and add it directly to your browser.

  2. To double check and use the extension click the extension button on your browser.

Select 1Password. Now you can search, save, and add passwords to your vault.

Congratulations you can use the Extension on your browser!

To view your trusted device and browser list, login to 1Password via the the web browser (this must be from a 1Password trusted browser, i.e. the browser used to setup 1Password), UCDavis.1Passwrod.com, click the the three dots next to your profile name, and select “My Profile”. You’ll find the registered devices under “Trusted Devices and Browsers”.
