Vet Med Developers Meeting 1/24/07

EVALUATION STATUS - Scott, Phil

Scott modified eval to be single tool (instead of 2 tools.)

Evaluation reports include student view and instructor view. Instructor can see all their course evals in one report.

Course templates for next quarter:
The next deploy will collapse the tools specifically for the next term; current deploy won't support questions for template without restructuring the tools.

The team is ready for Jan to enter questions; want to hold off on deployment for after Jan has completed the data entry next Tuesday.

New functions include evaluation creation process by term. Sychronizing with calendar is a web service and can be deployed separately from the upcoming code upgrade.

Discussion of conflict between systems: a CREST calendaring event in didn't exist in CERE. Scott added more error handling to check for these types of differences, i.e., exception is thrown when event exists in CREST but not in CERE.
Beau and Scott discussed whether Calendar update should be wrapped in a single transction (to catch these exceptions.) Transaction wrapping of batch completion not really feasible because the process takes considerable time to complete. Will wait to see if new error handling code helps with the event conflicts.

Permission-based links provide access to eval admin (including SU access) on various template access levels, including first-level school and second-level department, for entering questions in templates and/or viewing reports.

SERVERS - Beau

Programmers replicating Vet Med my ddatabase data on local machines for development need to meet security standards sensitive user data on mobile machines. Need to apply Soundex algorithm to name and email user identification fields to be in compliance with state and UC restrictions on sensitive data.

Hibernate mapping needs to be changed, once the production system checks are completed, per Ray.

TRAINING AND CONTENT - Dave, Chris

Dave - Media server directory structure and setup are working well. Content is now moved over.

Team has talked about faculty support, i.e., Help file and pending support site, initial for faculty administration capabilities. Possibly a generalized site outside of CREST and CERE combining all help information needed by VM faculty & staff for multiple systems. Ray validated the idea of a centralized Help system.

Chris - Help content development: example of documenting proposed course status - what can/cannot be modified for newly proposed courses not fully validated yet.

Other topics:

ID/EID conversation pending with campus deployment team.
Discussion of various cases where user identification is confused, i.e., former students returning in a position, etc.

Harvest Road/Hive digital repository product demo pending for February.
