SmartSite Migrating From AFS To SAN Based Storage Solution

• We are currently investigating how we can migrate from an AFS to a SAN based storage solution.

Phase 1

• Connect smartsite-ng1 (single node) to SAN via HBA (Host Bus Adapter, Fiber Channel)
• Using local ext3 file system

Phase 2

• Ask Michigan, Indiana, and Berkeley what setup they have
  • Michigan's Response
  • Indiana's Response
  • Berkeley's Response

Phase 3

• Evaluate responses from Michigan, Indiana, and Berkeley and propose a SAN setup
• ...

Phase 4

• Propose connecting servers to SAN and using OCFS2 filesysem
• Set-up proof of concept using mario (smartsite-ng1) and luigi to test access
• If all goes well, propose purchasing HBA for braddock for further testing
