Sakai v2.3 Enhancements Tests

Simple test plans are listed here for easy identification.

Resources

Resources - Timed release test

SAK-391
This simple test is reproduced from some of the testing elements on the Collab site Timed Release QA

Resources may be released to and/or retracted from students on a time basis.

Preparation/Set up
Create a course site with at least the following tools:

  • Resources

Add 4 users to this site:

  • 2 Instructors (to make sure they can't hide things from each other)
  • 1 Teaching Assistant (assign a test account like sakaistu2 as a TA or work with another tester)
  • 1 Student (test student like sakaistu1)

Upload at least one file and one new folder that contains at least one file to the Resources section of a course site.

Verify Permissions:
The Resources tool has a new permission named "Hidden." Before conducting any testing, verify that the Instructor and Teaching Assistant roles have the hidden permission, and the Student role does not. You can alter this as an Instructor through the "Permissions" action link at the top of the Resources tool.

Resources - Ability to customize order of Resources

SAK-402
This simple test is reproduced from elements on the Collab site Ability to customize order of Resources

Issue: Instructors should be able to set documents/files within and outside of folders, as well as folders in resources in whatever order they choose, rather than having documents appear in alphabetical order. An instructor may have several folders, and files outside of folders, in the Resources area – Homework, Assignments, Images, Maps, Research Resources List. Currently, Sakai puts these items in alphabetical order.
The site owner should be able to determine the order in which folders and files appear. The site owner should also be able to determine the order in which documents/files within a folder appear. Able to set order of folders and files, files within folders, including hidden folders/files.

New UI features include 1) Reorder option appears in Resources whenever more that one file/folder exists for the user to organise and 2) a new Reorder screen loads when the Reorder option is selected allowing the user to organize via up/down arrows or position numbers.

Preparation/Set up
Create a course site with at least the following tools:

  • Resources

Add users to this site:

  • 1 Instructor
  • 1 Student (test student like sakaistu1)

Upload at least 2-3 files and one folder with 2-3 files to the Resources section of a course site. Set up at least one file or folder as hidden (see #Resources - Timed release test.)

Action

User Acting As

Expected Result

Select Resources from your course site. Verify that the top level files and folders appear in alphabetical order.

Instructor

Files and folders on the top level are listed in alphabetical order by default.

Open one or more folders and verify that all the files or sub-folders are in alphabetical order.

Instructor

Files and folders on all levels are listed in alphabetical order by default.

Select the Expand All icon (up arrow above down arrow) to the far left of your course resources sub-menu and expand all your resources. Verify that the Reorder option exists for all folders which contain at least 2 or more files/folders.

Instructor

The Reorder link will appear to the right of the Add and Revise options for all folders with multiple file/folder content.

Select the Reorder option on one of your folders and verify that a new screen is loaded.

Instructor

The reordering screen loads with the text "Reordering:" followed by a folder icon and the name of your course. The first folder listed is the folder you selected to reorder and the contents directly beneath that folder are displayed. Sub-directories are not displayed.

Reorder the contents of your folder using the up and down arrows on the left side of the screen. Save the changes and verify the new order on the main Resources screen.

Instructor

Files and folders are now displayed in their new order.

Reorder the contents of your folder using the Position drop-downs on the right side of the screen. Verify that changing one number automatically updates the other drop-down values (i.e., the screen does not allow you to have duplicate position numbers.) Save the changes and verify the new order on the main Resources screen.

Instructor

Files and folders are now displayed in their new order.

Verify that any hidden files are successfully reordered.

Instructor

Hidden files are treated the same as viewable files.

Log out and log back in as a student in your course. Navigate to Resources for your course. Verify that the order changes you make as an instructor are still in place and that any hidden files do not appear in the current order.

Student

Order changes made as an instructor are viewable by the student. Hidden files are still not visible.

Known Issues:
There are at least 2 known issues associated with sorting, so if you notice them during testing, you do NOT need to report them. The issues are:

  1. Collab SAK-7585: Reordering Resources changes the Modified date for all items
  2. Collab SAK-8310: Resources reorder function only works on intial selection and does not work on reverse order

Post your test results indicating either a pass or a fail with details to: SAK-402
