  • In design phase: importing Respondus quizzes or question pools – the advantage of R. is that it's a nice authoring environment - desktop app, less than $100 a copy.
  • QTI: Interoperability standard. Predecessor to Common Cartridge. Distinct from Zach's effort to implement CC. Part of Sakai's committment to IMS standards for compatibility.
  • Consider expanding QTI import/export to look at IMS Content Packaging – includes capability to import/export media with a quiz, possibly importing/exporting subpools. Still gathering use cases from the community for this.
  • Common Cartridge: Still unclear when this will be incorporated into Sakai Foundation core. Prob. sign. work to draw into our world. But, it could make it possible to bring in various outside data...
Outside tool from Sakai Foundation, does migration via SiteInfo, long-term effort to bring in textbook publisher data, etc.

Fit Analysis

  • This fit analysis was done in June. Since then, some changes have been made to the Samigo code
    • Changes to Loss of Functionality section:
      • Images can now be inserted into questions without a fixed url (i.e. uploaded from desktop)
      • Randomisation of answers is now done on a student-by-student basis, so each student sees a different order
    • I believe the following issues are still outstanding
      • Samigo does not have a calculated type question
      • Samigo does not have an unordered fillin question
      • File attachments to assessments have not yet been added as of 2.2
      • Permissions still do not exist to handle sharing of quiz editing and viewing privileges, although it is possible to export a quiz and give it to someone else to import
      • There is still no 'hint' field, that I was able to find, although the 'feedback' mechanism might be adaptable to this purpose.
      • It's still not possible to restrict matching questions or provide distractors
    • As far as the Known Bugs with Samigo section goes:
      • The issue raised with the 'default template', i.e. not being able to modify it, is no longer a problem since the introduction of assessment types
      • The various problems raised with timed assessments may still be there; I don't have sufficient time to verify. These are further reinforced by the problems raised under Authoring in regards to high-stakes quizzes
